Whalebone and o2 Telefónica Germany join to launch “o2 Onlineschutz” cybersecurity service

Whalebone, a leading cybersecurity provider for the telecommunications sector, has partnered with o2 Telefónica Germany to launch ‘o2 Onlineschutz’ a white-labeled version of its security product Whalebone Aura. It offers an additional layer of protection for o2 Telefónica’s B2C customers. The partnership between the two companies that produce the product was initiated two years ago at Wayra Germany, o2 Telefónica’s Open Innovation Hub, and is now commercially available

Whalebone’s is well-known in the telco mass-market cybersecurity landscape, and Richard Malovic, CEO of Whalebone, expressed his enthusiasm about the collaboration. “Partnering with o2 Germany is a significant milestone for us. To achieve this immense success, I really appreciate the innovative spirit of o2 Telefónica’s open innovation hub, Wayra, which was there for us during the crucial stages of the deal-making process. o2 doesn’t only talk about innovation, o2 truly ‘Can do’,” he said.

Whalebone is both expanding has what it describes as a broader mission to protect one billion people from cyber threats by the end of the decade.

Whalebone also secured the 20th spot on the Financial Times’ Sifted Leaderboard 2024 for Central Europe. Additionally, the European Commission appointed Whalebone its Consortium Leader for the European Union’s DNS4EU project, highlighting the company’s expertise in secure DNS services.

Real-time threat detection for telco customers

Whalebone technology uses machine learning algorithms to identify and block malicious websites in real-time. The company’s partnership with o2 Telefónica Germany brings this technology to a wider audience, helping to protect people across Germany from the growing threat of cyberattacks.

Customers of o2 Telefónica Germany now have the option to bolster their security measures and help safeguard their mobile devices from unwanted and malicious content, viruses, and other threats. The product works on the network level so threats are blocked before they reach the end-user. The approach offers protection with no disruption for the end user’s experience.
