T-Mobile has launched “5G On Demand,” a portable 5G private network solution designed to streamline the deployment of advanced, data-driven networks across various industries.
Set to be commercially available by the end of 2024, 5G On Demand is tailored to meet the dynamic needs of sectors such as media and entertainment, oil and gas, and construction, among others.
Despite its official introduction today, 5G On Demand has already made a significant impact at prestigious events. It was utilised at the PGA Championship with CBS Sports and the KPMG Women’s PGA Championship with NBC Sports, enhancing operational efficiency and elevating fan experiences.
By integrating with Sony’s advanced PDT-FP1 data transmitters and ultra-low latency encoders/decoders, the system enabled Sony’s FX6 cameras to achieve an impressive glass-to-glass latency of under 100 milliseconds.
Achieving broadcast-quality video transmission without the encumbrance of bulky cables poses a significant challenge, especially when supporting multiple 4K cameras running at 60 FPS concurrently. Traditional cellular networks often struggle with bandwidth limitations and environmental obstacles, while conventional infrastructure setup can involve significant costs and complexity.
T-Mobile’s 5G On Demand tackles these challenges by offering a turnkey solution with benefits including:
- Cost reduction: Minimises fibre dependency while still delivering essential bandwidth and low latency.
- Affordability: Presents a cost-effective alternative to permanent custom-built private networks, which are often expensive to implement and maintain.
- Remote production support: Reduces the necessity for expensive onsite personnel and equipment.
- Operational efficiency: Streamlines the capturing, transmission, and production of media.
- Enhanced deployment speed and flexibility: Facilitates remote production on the nation’s largest and fastest 5G network.
Mishka Dehghan, SVP of Strategy, Product and Solutions Engineering at T-Mobile Business Group, said: “With 5G On Demand, T-Mobile is transforming how businesses and organisations implement 5G private networks, prioritising cost-efficiency and simplicity.
“We’re making it easier than ever to set up powerful networks, empowering teams to focus on what they do best — delivering exceptional content and services without the complications of traditional infrastructure.”
By simplifying the process of establishing private 5G networks with a portable solution, T-Mobile aims to empower businesses to adapt swiftly to technological advancements and consumer expectations—all while maintaining operational efficiency and cost-effectiveness.
