If there is one thing that surprised us about the Pixel Watch, it was just how persistent Google turned out to be with it.
We are not saying this with bad feelings at all, but knowing Google’s history with killing various products, we almost didn’t believe the Pixel Watch will persevere.
Well, it’s definitely not the looks as Google has kept the round look, the same two sizes, the domed glass and even its quirky quick-swap mechanism for the straps.
Pixel Watch 4 vs Pixel Watch 3: expected differences
- Slightly thicker (14.3mm vs 12.3mm)
- Slightly thinner bezels
- New charging dock, much faster charging speeds
- Brighter screen
- Much longer battery life
- Personal AI health coach

- Dual-band GPS
- Satellite communication
- Repairable
Pixel Watch 4 vs Pixel Watch 3: things that have stayed the same
- Same RAM and Storage (2/32GB)

Design & Sizes
Unchanged design
Not much to discuss here — Google is sticking with the same design style for the Pixel Watch 4, which means it’s unapologetically round and domed.
We’ve already mentioned in the past how this reminds us of some popular JungHans time pieces, definitely an icon of style.
The big news is the repairability for the Pixel Watch 4. Being able to easily replace the screen and/or battery is absolutely great. In case you didn’t know, a Pixel Watch with a cracked screen in the past would just get replaced with a new one with Google, an outright absurdity.
We also have the same sizes at 41mm and 45mm, but with slightly smaller bezels now, a nice change.
When it comes to colors, the case comes in the following hues:
- Black
- Silver
- Gold
- NEW! Moonstone (matching the color of Pixel 10 Pro)
As for straps, you have an even bigger variety with plenty of color options (check out the cool limoncello (yellow) strap).
Bands
The same proprietary quick-swap system
Luckily, Google has been consistent with its custom quick-swap system for straps.
That means that early buyers who have a collection of straps will be able to easily use their bands on the Pixel Watch 4.
Just remember that the size of the actual straps is different between the smaller (41mm) and larger (45mm) models.
Pixel Watches in the past have each strap in two sizes, a small and large one. The small size of each strap fits wrists with a 150-185 mm circumference, and the large size goes with wrists with a 165-215 mm circumference.
Software & Features
New software tricks, old hardware clothes
The Pixel Watch 4 comes with Wear OS 6, with the new Expressive design tweaks.
Google calls the UI Material 3 Expressive, and it comes with smoother scrolling, buttons and notifications that react when they reach the display edge and buttons that grow larger when you tap them. Dynamic theming matches colors from the watch face across other UI elements.
There is also support for third-party watch faces via the Watch Face Push API.
Wear OS 6 alone also delivers a 10% battery life boost.
Of course, the big star of the Wear OS 6 show is AI. Starting with Gemini, the much smarter AI assistant is baked deep in the system and you can now just raise your wrist to talk to it. Nice and easy.
On the hardware side, we get dual-band GPS, great for those who run in big cities with tall buildings or the other type of runners, those who end up in dense forests. Signal reception will be much better with this.
But what about the new health and fitness features? First, here is a recap of what we got with the previous models.
- Loss of Pulse
- More accurate HR algorithm
- Skin temperature
- Continuous body response (cEDA)
- Passive irregular heart rhythm warning
The most impressive Pixel Watch 4 feature is something called a personal AI health coach, built with Gemini.
Think of this like having a personal trainer — but one that actually lives on your wrist. It starts with a quick chat about your goals, what equipment you’ve got, and what kind of workouts you like. From there, it builds you a personalized plan with detailed workouts and weekly progress targets.
And the best part? It’s not just a one-and-done plan. The coach adjusts everything in real time based on your data. Say you wake up feeling wrecked after a bad night’s sleep — instead of pushing you too hard, it’ll tweak your plan for the day with say a light stretch or just rest so you can recover and still stay on track.
Plus, life happens, right? Maybe you’re traveling, super busy, or you pulled a muscle. You can check in with the coach any time, tell it how you’re feeling, and it’ll instantly adjust your workouts. It’s like having a trainer that actually listens instead of just yelling, “one more rep!”
Battery and Charging
Faster charging is a big deal
With a slightly thicker body, we get a slightly bigger battery inside the Pixel Watch 4.
But with multiple optimizations coming together, the actual upgrade in battery life is significant.
You get 30 hours of battery life on the smaller version and 40 hours on the bigger one, and with Battery Saver you can extend that to 2 days on the small version and 3 days on the big one.
And if you want the hard battery size numbers, we have that below:
Smaller model | Bigger model |
---|---|
Pixel Watch 4 (41mm): 327 mAh +7% |
Pixel Watch 4 (45mm): 459 mAh +9% |
Pixel Watch 3 (41mm): 307 mAh |
Pixel Watch 3 (45mm): 420 mAh |
Pixel Watch 2 (41mm): 306 mAh |
– |
Pixel Watch (41mm): 294 mAh |
– |
And it’s not just the battery life, it’s charging that’s improving a great deal too.
A new vertical charging dock looks more stylish and more comfortable to use. The Pixel Watch 4 would charge to 50% in merely 15 minutes, while an 80% charge takes half an hour! Wow! These are OnePlus-like numbers!
Compare that to the Pixel Watch 2 and 3 getting 50% charge in 30 minutes and an 80% charge in 45 minutes.
As far as options and configurations, you basically have the two sizes, the small 41 mm one and the larger 45 mm one, and then you can choose to buy a Wi-Fi only model or a version with LTE. Keep in mind that only LTE watches support satellite communication, you don’t get that feature on a Wi-Fi only watch.
Below, you can find a breakdown of the prices:
- Pixel Watch 4 (41 mm) Wi-Fi from $350 (add $100 for LTE)
- Pixel Watch 3 (45 mm) Wi-Fi from $400 (add $100 for LTE)
Summary
The Pixel Watch 4 looks like the most exciting upgrade since the beginning of the series.
Sure, the design stays mostly the same, but the much longer battery life, the faster charging and having a repairable watch all sound like a very sensible upgrade.
And the way that Google has integrated AI into this watch is truly game-changing. Sure, Gemini on your wrist is something we expected to see, but things like the new Personal AI Health coach are incredible
The only sad part is that you’d have to wait for your Pixel Watch 4 until October 9th. Well, at least you can pre-order one right away to make sure you get it on time.
