Ericsson has set its sights on driving the digital transformation of Thailand, leveraging its robust 5G infrastructure and global expertise. The company’s vision, unveiled today, aims to accelerate Thailand’s journey towards becoming a digital economy.
Central to Ericsson’s plans is the newly completed 5G Innovation and Experience Studio at Thailand Digital Valley. Established in collaboration with the Royal Thai Government through the Digital Economy Promotion Agency (DEPA), this facility serves as a cutting-edge 5G co-creation space.
Anders Rian, President of Ericsson Thailand, said: “5G is a platform for innovation. It enables new services for consumers, enterprises and industry. We remain committed to fostering partnerships and innovations to ensure that Thailand reaps the full benefits of a robust and sustainable 5G network.”
The studio features Ericsson’s state-of-the-art 5G sandbox network, designed to develop, test, verify, and certify new 5G use cases in partnership with global collaborators. It showcases several innovative applications, including Automated Mobile Robots (AMR), an Automated Production Machine in collaboration with Mitsubishi, and 360-degree wearable CCTV cameras.
“We hope [the 5G Innovation and Experience Studio] will encourage new, innovative use cases in Thailand, leveraging the full potential of 5G. By working together with other ecosystem players, we will drive digital transformation that will benefit the Thai people, the economy, and the country,” Rian added.
The recently released Ericsson Mobility Report paints an optimistic picture for 5G adoption in the region. 5G subscriptions in Southeast Asia and Oceania are projected to reach approximately 560 million by the end of 2029, up from 61 million at the end of 2023. By 2029, 5G is expected to account for 43% of all mobile subscriptions in the region.
The report also highlights a significant increase in data consumption, with traffic per smartphone user in Southeast Asia forecasted to grow from 17GB/month in 2023 to 42 GB/month by 2029.
Globally, 5G continues to gain momentum. About 300 Communication Service Providers (CSPs) now offer 5G services worldwide, with approximately 50 having launched 5G Standalone (5G SA). Ericsson currently powers 162 5G networks across 69 countries.
The company’s leadership in the 5G network infrastructure market has been reaffirmed by business consulting firm Frost & Sullivan. For the fourth consecutive year, Ericsson has been ranked as the leader in the Frost Radar 5G Network Infrastructure Market analysis, which covers radio access networks (RAN), transport networks, and core networks.
Ericsson’s vision and expertise in 5G technology position the company as a key player in shaping Thailand’s digital future. With its commitment to innovation and collaboration, Ericsson Thailand is set to play a key role in unlocking the full potential of 5G for businesses, consumers, and the broader Thai economy.
